I noticed my post with the “Boycott Clovis” video is no longer up. After a little research and word of mouth I discovered the town officials known as the Committee of Fifty (or The Shifty Fifty) were none too pleased with the representation. Bummer. Anytime I felt a little down about our current situation, I just watched the video for a quick pick-me-up. I’m assuming the creators were kindly asked to take it off the web. I found a mention of it here in the local paper. It’s funny because the article quoted a person who thanked the video’s creators for creating a “wake-up call.” Maybe now they’ll begin enforcing the “No Cows in the Front Lawn” law.

On a kind of related note, I took a much needed getaway to Panama City this weekend to visit my old Clovakian friend Carey and her husband Skeet. Another weekend alone in Savannah and I think I would have gone certifiable. They are some of the first friends we made in Clovis. Trav and I feel blessed to still keep in touch with the friends we made there (if you check out this site you know who you are!). We’re just itching to get back in to meet up with those old friends (and family) again and look forward to making some new ones.

I guess to put it all in perspective, when asked about these past two assignments, I’d trade Clovis/friends/community for Savannah/few friends/no community in a heartbeat… even if it means I must endure Walmart, Fuzzy-hos, Taco Box, Kellys, dust storms, flies, cow poop, flatness, etc…. all over again.

Looks like you had a nice get-a-way!! I remember PCs ‘white’ sandy beaches from 30 years ago (that was BK – before kids) – it looks pretty clean!!! Pam, I hear you’re feeling movement now!!! You may have told me, but the reception wasn’t the best the whole time. Sure was good to hear your voice though!! I’m glad for your sanity and glad the little ‘kid’ is akickin’!!

Just goes to show you, it’s not the where but the who in you life that counts.

Wow! That Shifty Fifty. I like the quote about “military personel can always leave and go to Iraq instead.” Nice. And the guy who was talking about how he didn’t drink but keeps alcohol at his house for parties. Riiigghhttt. I hope it is a wake-up call because I don’t care what they say, Clovis is a DUMP!

And… you are ALWAYS welcome here for any extended period. Especially now that you won’t douse my house with red wine!

Hey Pam – I want to send Snake another load of jerky – will he still be “there” for a while? Sorry about cluttering up the comments, but I lost your email. Tx, Dan.

  5. Pam says:

Dan, he comes home in the next couple of weeks (yay!) but their’s always next deployment!

  6. dfm says:

OK, thanks. I won’t bother sending a load as it won’t get there in time more than likely, but like you said, I will do it next deployment. Glad he is coming home soon, for both (all three) of you.
