Okay, so my life is fairly boring right now and all I have to post about is the weather. If all other conversation topics fail, you can always talk about the weather, right? Last night is the second time in two weeks tornado sirens went off. Now, I had only ever heard tornado sirens once before in my life so something tells me it’s a pretty common occurrence down yonder in Georgia. The first was last week while at work and all those tornado drills I’ve practiced over the years came into use. However, imagine that 5 minute drill being dragged out into an hour with 150 prek-5th graders crammed into a hallway with sirens blaring. It was NOT fun and it smelled like stale farts too.

Even worse is losing power at 11 at night with a severe thunderstorm visible in the distance. It reminded me of the one we saw in Clovis that I posted about here. Yeah, I’ll admit I’m afraid of the dark and stumbling around for candles alone at night is not my idea of fun. After calming my nerves I finally got settled into bed and then that stupid siren goes blaring again. Three thoughts entered my mind: 1) How the heck am I, the gayhounds, and the cat all gonna fit into that tiny linen closet in the hallway? 2) Maybe I’d be safer in the bathtub with a mattress over me. How I’m going to drag the mattress into the bathroom and over my head, I don’t know. and 3) F*** it. I’ll take my chances. I’m too tired and I’ll be proactive if I hear what sounds like a freight train coming my way.

Fortunately the sirens subsided and the storm only lasted 30 minutes. I got power back this morning and the only casualty is the solid pile of ice cubes in my freezer. Anyone got an ice pick I can borrow?

The Ox Tails were braised on the stovetop using a beef stock, red wine and tomato sauce mixture. I added a rutabaga, garlic, celery, mushrooms, potatoes, onion and carrots. A little salt, a little pepper and some parsley – simmer for about an hour and a half. My recipe, and the first time I’ve ever braised ANYTHING ~ it was excellent !

Sorry I wasn’t much help last night ~ I’m normally up at that hour but kitchen cabinets wore me out !

Enjoy gnawing on your bones. You should try the soup form, it’s really tasty.

I can really relate to your plight! Don’t trip over the dogs or Avalon in the dark while you’re hunting for the candles!!! When I was here by myself, a couple of bad storms came through and the wind was so strong it kept blowing the bedroom doors open – even when they were locked! And, the power went off 9 times! I was trying to watch a movie!! It was a little unnerving – the crack of the lightening and the wind whistling through the house!! I don’t really like storms that much right here in tornado alley!!!

  4. Trav's Dad says:

Unless you have a trailer park in your neighborhood, you’ll very likely not have to worry about tornados.

Yes, you wash all those f’s and asterisks out of your mouth before you have a baby! :) Tee hee, actually I just wanted to segway to another important topic…when are you finding out what you’re having?!?!? I saw on Chey’s blog, that they already found out…it does seem like people find out much earlier anymore…i know I sound like a dinosaur, but i didn’t find out ben was a boy until 25 weeks! :) inquiring minds want to know!

  8. Pam says:

Hey Jenny! Have it scheduled April 10 (my b-day). I’ll be 20 weeks then so it’ll be good timing I guess.
