No one warned me that having a kid was like owning a chimp… at least they don’t fling poo at you (well, he hasn’t yet).  They get into everything!  Brenden’s already locked himself into a bunch of rooms (open the door, try to close the door, open the door, try to close the door, click.  “Oh shit, now it won’t open!”).  For an added bonus, let’s pull everything off the shelves and tables and see how far they can get tossed.  Or slam on a keyboard for a while as Dad tries to work on Grad Schoaskdjfaldnkj.

Aight, down on the floor you go now.  Only to grab the computer cover… open, close, open, close… at least he hasn’t found the powe

What's the red button do?

yes, he really did shut the thing down on me when I was in the middle of working on stuff… I now lock the cover so he can’t open it.

LOCK THE DOORS! PULL THE CUTRAINS! PLUG THE OUTLETS! BRENDEN HAS ENTERED THE ‘RUG RAT / CURTAIN CLIMBER’ STAGE!

Gone from meatloaf to rocket boy in just 10 short months! Just think what the future will bring.

Yeah, we have similar issues all the time. The fact that every power button now seems to light up doesn’t help. “But Dad, it’s shining right at me!!”. It only gets better as they get older. Now that Jenny and I both have iPod Touches, we downloaded the Star Wars Lightsaber app because Ben lives and breathes Star Wars (I may have created a monster). At any rate, all he wants to do is practice his Jedi skills, and as he’s waving it around slaying imaginary Sith, I have visions of one of our iPods flying across the room. I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s just a thing (an expensive thing, but a thin nonetheless). Enjoy the fun while it lasts!

AMEN! on the getting into everything!! Vigilance required (you know, like batteries required?) It’s amazing how quickly they can get from one thing to another!!! The new game is called ‘distraction’ and ‘trading objects’! “NO” helped some with lots of repetition, but substitution was a temporary fix until next time. Gone are the stationary days of walking away without worry to do your own thing nearby!!!
