It’s been two weeks since the surgery. I finally got the cast replaced with a walking boot on my ankle (I guess “finally” is tempered with relativity – I know people typically have casts on for 6+ weeks). I’ve re-learned that I hate crutches… if I’m just around the house or in a confined space, I’ll just hop around on one foot to get where I need to go. The problem with that is now I think my other ankle is getting slightly sore due to over-use. With the boot, I can take it on and off. Even though my ankle feels extremely vulnerable and naked without it, I’ve been able to actually wash my leg (which I haven’t done since 25Apr – and surprisingly the dogs weren’t nipping at it when the cast came off) and even sleep better at night without some big bulky thing on my leg.
During my checkup visit, another bout of X-Rays were taken to make sure everything was going “as planned” since the surgery. I kinda laughed-cried when I saw the results: my ankle was lit up like a Christmas tree! And yes Laura, these are my actual X-Rays. Now I’m kinda curious to see if I’ll be able to feel 7 bumps (from the screw-heads under my skin) on my ankle for the rest of my life.
Anyway, I’m supposedly not allowed to put body weight on my ankle until July. Just working on motion until then… we’ll see.
